Happy birthDAVE!
Wed 25 Aug 2010

As previously announced on our website, we played a gig in Speakers in Delft last Friday August 20th, together with Metatron. As promised, there would be a special surprise that night: we secretly organised a birthday party for Dave Schinkel, our regular sound technician! He was already suspecting something when we asked him to keep this date open, but he wasn't absolutely sure until he walked into Speakers to find the mixing board decorated, and the venue filled with his family and friends!

Metatron, with former Annatar-members Mischa and Alex, opened the gig solidly. Halfway through their gig, Dave was called on-stage to receive a very special present: a huge boobcake, baked by Alex' girlfriend! Needless to say, this cake didn't make it to the end of the night.

Then it was our turn. With Josha Nuis filling in on the drums for Daniel, we played a powerful and energetic set. And after a brief conversion it was time for the big surprise: producer Djuri Boot climbed the stage and picked up a guitar, and Pim Kooiman took over drum duties for a great and varied coverset 1.5 hours of length! Together with Djuri, 16 songs were selected that in some way have a special meaning to Dave. This includes some of his regular 'soundcheck songs' ('Change the World' by Eric Clapton) that he often uses to set the tone of a PA to his liking before he addresses the sound of the actual band he's mixing. In 'Open Your Eyes' by Guano Apes we were spontaneously supplemented by Imke of Metatron on vocals, and for 'Roots Bloody Roots' by Sepultura Mischa was called to the stage (who announced the song by handing Dave a root).

All in all we can look back at a great party! We would like to thank everyone who made this all happen (Speakers, Djuri, Metatron, both drummers, and last but not least Rianne, whom we sent on a date with Dave to keep him from busting in on us while rehearsing the coversongs in the Schiehal) and of course everyone who showed up! Without all of you, this wouldn't have been possible :-)

We hope to see you all soon at an Annatar-gig!

New gig!
Sun 8 Aug 2010

We have a new gig to announce! We will be playing in Speakers (Delft) the 20th of August. Opening this evening is Metatron, featuring Mischa (former guitarist/grunter) and Alex (former bass player). It promises to be a special night (with a very special surprise), so don't miss this gig in the heart of our home city!

To make it even more attractive, the entrance is free!

Daniel temporarily out of service
Tue 20 Jul 2010

After having be without Liesbeth for a while due to the operation on her vocal cords, we’ll now have to miss Daniel for a while too: after the semifinals of the world soccer championship in South Africa of July 7th (Netherlands – Uruguay) he has suffered some serious injuries to his right lower leg, disabling him to play drums for a while.

During a game of street soccer after the match, the ball flew onto the roof of a school and Daniel went after it to get it back down. When climbing back down, he accidentally stepped through a window that had been invisible from the rooftop, lost his grip and fell. In his fall, his leg got stuck behind the broken glass, resulting in a deep cut to the bone. A tendon and some nerves were also cut.

Daniel was taken to the AMC hospital by ambulance, where his tendon and arteries were rejoined. Right now he’s doing well, everything functions and appears to recover properly. For the time being, the feeling in the sole of his right foot is gone but this is expected to come back in time. We wish Daniel all the best and a swift recovery and rehabilitation, and hope to be back on stage together soon. Of course we will keep you informed on his recovery here.

Funny detail: the sutured wound closely resembles the capital A of the Annatar-logo... Or, as Daniel puts it: "I carved the Annatar-logo into my leg because I miss Annatar so much =)"

Obviously, this leaves us with a practical problem, with gigs and the recording of an album planned. We’re searching for a temporary replacement to help us out. Expect news soon!
